Kanye West is wearing leather jackets with spikes in them, and wearing jeans with metal bands names on them… can’t wait for every ghetto swag hoodrat to start dressing like metal heads. Really can’t wait….All the kids who thought people like me were weird for wearing leather jackets or all black with metal band names mocked us.
I’ve been rocking the leather pants and metal band logo for as long as I can remember. Does this mean I’m a hipster and had “swag” before Kanye?
Its not the matter that he’s black. The issue is that he is a mainstream pop/hip-hop person so because of what he wears is “swag” to the mainstream sensation they’re all gonna wear these things which at one point which I was insulted for wearing all the time. So my problem is that I’m gonna see people who mocked me for wearing this attire are now wearing it cause its “hip”.

You’re really trying to make it sound like cultural appropriation, like you were oppressed for wearing a leather jacket and now everybody else can wear them without that treatment. White people within the rock n roll scene mocking black people and PoC for showing up to the music they love and dressing how they like is part of white Afro Punk even has to exist.
But there’s no history or precident…
That’s not true. Having Punk roots, there’s a ton of cultural exchange that was happening between punks and hip-hoppers in the 70′s. Black Punks and White B-Boys were fairly commonplace until commercialization of those two scenes intentionally divided it along racial line.
If you need more proof, there is a certain song you’re likely to hear play at some ‘old-school’ Goth nights.
This song [Blondie’s Rapture], in case you didn’t know, is talking about the cultural exchange that was happening between the Punk/New Wave scene and the Hip-Hop scene in New York in the late 70′s and early 80′s. Punks were literally escorted to hip-hop shows in the South Bronx, and those same Hip-Hoppers were coming down to Punk / New Wave shows in Manhattan.
I hope to gods Rock N Roll mainstream becomes “ghetto” AKA BLACK again, maybe then it’ll get some damn soul. Also shit ton of racist ass white people will hop onto something else and leave a less aggressively racist environment for black people (and all PoC) within the RnR community at large.
